Ensembles & Guard
Mighty Cardinal Marching Band
The MHS Marching Band includes all students enrolled in the band program. A state-recognized ensemble, MHS holds a strong history of achievement, including advancing to the 4A UIL Texas State Marching Band Contest with back-to-back medal finishes (2nd in 2020, 3rd in 2021). Most recently, the band placed 6th at the 2025 5A UIL Area B Finals Marching Band Contest.
Wind Ensemble & Symphonic Band
Placement in the Melissa High School Wind Symphony (Varsity) and Wind Ensemble (Non-Varsity I) is achieved through a competitive audition process. Highlighted by national acclaim, the Wind Ensemble was recently chosen to participate in the 2027 Music for All National Concert Festival.

Private lesson enrollment
TMEA Region Band auditions (All-State track)
Solo & Ensemble contest participation
Participation in Marching Band & UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluation
Attendance at all required band activities and performances
Concert Band & Cardinal Band
Admittance to the Concert Band (Non-Varsity II) and Cardinal Band (Non-Varsity III) is open to all high school band students through an audition process.

Attendance at all required band events and performances

Color Guard
The Color Guard is the dynamic auxiliary performance unit of the Mighty Cardinal Marching Band, transitioning into the competitive Melissa High School Winter Guard each spring. Members learn essential choreography, foundational dance techniques, and advanced performance skills using flags, rifles, and sabers.
The program has quickly built a reputation for national excellence, earning the 2025 WGI Scholastic A Class World Championship Silver Medal out of 136 teams nationwide, followed by a top-10 finish in the 2026 WGI Scholastic Open World Finals in Dayton, Ohio.

The Melissa Percussion program develops successful, well-rounded individuals by building a strong, holistic foundation in music performance.
