Ensembles

Mighty Cardinal Marching Band 

The Cardinal Marching Band is made up of all students enrolled in the band at MHS.  This is a State recognized group that has advanced to the Texas State Marching Contest, with recent earnings of 2nd place in 2020 and 3rd place in 2021. 

Wind Ensemble

The Melissa High School Wind Ensemble is considered the Varsity Group.  Admittance to the Wind Ensemble is through an audition process.  Students in the Wind Ensemble are required to audition for Region Band with the hopes of making it to the ATSSB All-State Band and perform a solo and ensemble for Solo and Ensemble.  Other requirements include participation in the marching band, UIL Concert and Sight-reading Contest, and being present at other band related activities.

Symphonic Band

The Melissa High School Symphonic Band is open to all high school band students and is considered the Non-Varsity group.  Admittance into the Symphonic Band is through an audition process.  Students in the Symphonic Band are encouraged to audition for Region Band with the hopes of making it to the ATSSB All-State Band.  Other requirements include participation in the marching band, UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest, performing a solo and/or an ensemble, and being present for all band related events.

Color Guard

The Color Guard is an Auxillary Group of the Mighty Cardinal Marching Band and they also perform as the Melissa High School Winterguard during the Spring Semester.  Student will learn to use equipment such as flags, rifles and sabers and will learn basic dance movements. 

Melissa Percussion

The Melissa Percussion program seeks to educate young musicians and enhance their lives through music performance. It is this goal that guides our vision to produce well-rounded, intelligent, and successful human beings.  Music Education provides a diverse and holistic foundation of fundamental skills necessary for student success in music and throughout their entire life. The Melissa Percussion program consists of the following music ensembles: Marching Band Drumline and Front Ensemble, Concert Percussion Ensemble, and Indoor Percussion Ensemble.  Placement within each group is determined by a performance audition.  Students have the opportunity to perform at UIL Marching and Concert competitions, Solo and Ensemble contests, and All-Region Band.
