Melissa Band Program: A Legacy of Excellence, Built Together
Since 2005, the Melissa Band Program has grown into one of the most respected and successful music programs in the state of Texas. What started as a small group of passionate students and dedicated directors has, over the past 20 years, become a thriving program known not just for its competitive success, but for the values it instills in our students every day. The band program has established a standard of excellence across marching, concert, color guard, and percussion ensembles:
2027 Upcoming Honors Looking ahead, the Melissa High School Wind Ensemble was recently chosen to participate in the prestigious 2027 Music for All National Concert Festival.
2026 Accomplishments During the 2026 marching season, the HEB Drumline Contest named the Percussion section 1st Place & Grand Champion in the 5A Novice Division, sweeping all caption awards for Outstanding Snare, Tenor, Bass, and Front Ensemble. The Percussion section also contributed to the Marching Band placing 3rd overall at the 2026 5A UIL Area B Finals, where the Marching Band finished 5th Place overall. In indoor competition, the Color Guard earned the Scholastic Open State Silver Medal at the 2026 NTCA State Championships and advanced as a Top-20 World Finalist at the 2026 WGI World Championships.
2025 Accomplishments In 2025, the Color Guard secured the WGI World Silver Medal at the WGI World Championships, building on their history as multiple-time NTCA State Champions. The Marching Band took 6th Place at the 2025 5A UIL Area B Finals.
Program Legacy These recent achievements build upon a strong competitive history at the Texas State UIL Marching Band Contest, where the Marching Band has earned 5 total appearances, 4 finalist selections, a Bronze Medal (3rd Place) in 2021, and a Silver Medal (2nd Place) in 2020. These recognitions reflect not just talent, but countless hours of hard work, discipline, and heart, qualities that define what it means to be part of the Melissa Band.
What truly sets the Melissa Band Program apart is the culture we’ve built, a place where students are supported, challenged, and inspired. Many go on to earn spots in All-Region, All-Area, and All-State Bands, but what they carry with them is more than just recognition. They leave with confidence, leadership skills, and a deep appreciation for music and teamwork.
Looking back on these past 20 years, we’re incredibly proud of how far we’ve come. The Melissa Band Program continues to be a place where students strive for excellence, find their voice, and build memories that will stay with them forever.
Our Mission
The purpose of the Melissa Independent School District’s Band Program is to support the Melissa ISD vision of empowering ALL students to reach their utmost potential to achieve excellence and life-long success. The Melissa ISD Band Program will empower learners to develop their creativity in all aspects of their lives and to become life-long contributors to the local and global community through the arts.
